So why filmmaking at Kingston university?

I am applying for this course as I want to gain filmmaking skills at the best place possible, so I can ensure my future in the ever changing film world. Kingston is the only university that has stood out to me as it has everything from documentary to experimental work. The close contacts with professional filmmakers and the university will help to establish myself in this area. This course has a very close link to art and design, which appeals to me because of previous studies in this area.

My portfolio demonstrates my suitability for this course as it shows individual growth throughout the Art and design foundation year. I started the year wanting to do illustration as a degree and came out wanting to do film.

My colour experiment piece shows that I am always thinking of design layout. It started as an A1 sheet and I cropped it down to make it more visually pleasing. This is a skill I can use in filmmaking to create the best possible outcome.

My photo face montage, textile work and sketchbook page show strong elements of good composition. This is a transferable skill that can be used within cinematography.

I have my two favorite photos in my portfolio from the music video shoot I went on, with Crashburn media. This is evidence to show that I’m always looking for new opportunities to further my filmmaking skills. It also shows that I can work well with others.

I have included a double page from my sketchbook to show the development of the E4 advert. Both the E4 advert and my final piece show evidence of editing, directing, sound, lighting and cinematography. These are all skills I wish to develop further on your course.
